A handsome tree with a symmetrical, conical to rounded crown (50-60’ tall) and drooping lower branches. Lustrous, dark green leaves lack the deeply cut lobes of most oaks and yellow-brown to russet-red fall color commonly persists into winter. Small acorns (0.6”) take two years to mature and are enjoyed by a wide range of wildlife. Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soils, but quite adaptable. Tolerant of urban conditions and black walnut trees.
